Did you know?

90% of the orphans left by the AIDS epidemic are children living in sub-Saharan Africa. (Source: UNAIDS/WHO, Dec 2003)
By 2010, HIV/AIDS will have robbed an estimated 20 million children under the age of 15 of one or both parents. (Source: UNICEF, Nov. 2003)

Survey data shows that many Tanzania households with orphans cannot cover even basic expenses. The most common difficulty is paying for school fees. (Source: UNICEF, 2003)

In Tanzania, 980,000 children have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS. (UNAIDS)
22% of Tanzanian children under 15 years of age are AIDS orphans.

By 2010, AIDS is expected to increase the death rate in Tanzania by more than one half, and life expectancy will drop from 56 years to 47 years. (World Bank)

I kind of figured it out!

Ok so I can't get the Peace House Foundation video on here exactly, but it is as a link now, the Colors of Hope video. I also have a picture up, hopefully I will get a few more of my family and friends before I leave, and hopefully I can add to it while I am gone! Thanks so much for your support!
The school year is quickly coming to an end, so things are a little hectic around here! Have a good memorial weekend, hopefully the weather will be better than they anticipate!

one month and counting!

It is one month from today that I am leaving for Tanzania! I can't believe how quickly it is coming, I keep thinking about all the things that are happening between now and when I leave. I am also working on the games I am going to be doing when I am there. We are doing a little workshop for area teachers and I am going to present educational games and cooperative learning through games.
I am still trying to figure out how this blogging thing works, I have been trying to get the Peace House Foundation video up on here but it hasn't been working, hopefully I will be able to figure it out! :-)

Good news

I recieved some fantastic news this week. The school has decided to help me pay for part of my plane ticket! I am so very grateful that they think what I am doing is a worthy cause! It really is something that means a lot to me, so having the school agree is wonderful! A month and four days and I will be on my way!
